Buzios
Armação dos Buzios (or Buzios for short) is a little piece of paradise located 3 hours away by bus from the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is still located in the region of Rio de Janeiro, on the East side, not far away from the famous Cabo Frio.
How to get there:
By bus from Rio de Janeiro is the easiest. Bus services are actually the best I’ve experienced in Latin America.
What to see and what to do in Buzios:
Orla Bardot promenade: Originally a small fishing village, Búzios gained international fame in the 1960s when Brigitte Bardot came to visit. Today, you can find her statue made out of bronze along the Orla Bardot promenade.
Beaches: Buzios has more than 15 unique types of beaches Whether you're seeking calm waters for snorkeling, surfing waves, or simply lounging under the sun, Búzios has a beach to suit every preference. Geribá Beach is perfect for surfing enthusiasts, while Forno Beach offers a more tranquil setting ideal for families, couples, or solo escapes. If you have little time, I recommend you prioritize those beaches:
Forno Beach
Praia João Fernandinho (and surroundings)
City center of Buzios: The city center is small and adorable. Walking around the paved streets and in Buzios give an almost filmic atmosphere. You will find some restaurants, organic shops and a little shopping area.
Rent a car: As you can see on one of the pictures at the top, you can rent small little cars for a day or two (or more). It is the perfect way to get around the island and see all you need to see.
Cost: 10 euros/day
Where to sleep in Buzios:
Le Village Boutique Hotel is a beautiful complex, not too resorty right next to Forno Beach. You’ll have access to a breakfast buffet, a really nice room with your little private terrace, comfortable beds and a very cozy shower. The hotel has a pool, cute winding paths, adorable pets and well maintained garden parcels.
How to get around in Buzios:
Uber works pretty well in Buzios, and it is cheap. But for a nicer experience and if you have a drivings license, I would recommend you rent a car (like the one on my picture). It is fun, and you feel free. The hotel you are staying in will help you organise the rental.
