A day or two in mysore

Mysore (or Mysuru) is a mid-sized city in the state of Karnataka, India. It has historical monuments, all sorts of markets (craft, spice, fruit and vegetable), parks and lakes as well as view points. Mysore is famous for its Ashtanga Yoga as well. While traveling to Mysore I felt super safe whether during the day or the night. People are minding their own business and do not bother you for the least (except the tuk tuk drivers but it is their business to get clients). Some people will come towards you and most of them will simply want to talk or give you some piece of advice about the places to visit in Mysore.

Where to stay in Mysore

Roambay hostel - Beautiful hostel located in the center of Mysore. It is spacious and welcoming. They have privates, bigger dorms and smaller dorms. Female dorms and bathrooms are also available.

recommended indian food in mysore

$ = 0.70 cents - 2 euros / $$ = 2 - 5 euros / $$$ = more (dish only)

Mahesh Prasad Veg - $ - I really liked having breakfast there. They have delicious Dosas (I had the Masala one, twice, and it was really tasty) and the Uddina Vada which was also super tasty (It comes in a Sambal sauce ๐Ÿ˜‹)

Turmeric restaurant - $$ - A nice local place among less local restaurants. You will need to go down some stairs before entering the restaurant. I had a wonderful Lasooni Palak (garlic palak) with white rice. If you like your Porotas doughy then you should definitely order some there!

Places I did not get the chance to go to but that I would recommend based on reviews and intuition: Zen kitchen Mysuru (for some chilled yoga vibes), Old green house cafe (home cooking and family vibes)

recommended western food in Mysore

Sapa - $$$ - A fancy place where you can get western dishes such as pasta or goatโ€™s cheese pie. They have many different types of coffee and non-coffee drinks (such as Matcha which I had missed a lot since Bali!). They are specialized in pastries. I would not recommend the Baklava bun. The pistachio croissant as well as their rose and dark chocolate pastry looked really good.

Places I did not get the chance to go to but that I would recommend based on reviews and intuition:

Cafe Natureโ€™s blessing - $$ - A cozy little place that serves fresh and healthy food

Westend coffee company - Boho - $$ - another cozy little place right next door to Cafe Natureโ€™s blessing that serves smoothies, smoothie bowls and good coffee.

sightseeing in mysore

Mysore Palace - The price to enter the palace is 100 INR. You will have to leave your shoes at the entrance before entering the palace for 2 INR. The palace is beautiful, from inside out you will get to experience true Indian architecture filled with historical facts.

Opening time: 10:00am

Kukkarahalli lake - Free entrance. This lake is surrounded by a park used by many locals for a nice walk or a jogging at the end of the day. It is very relaxing and I would recommend to take your book to read on one of their many benches.

Opening time: 3:30 pm

Walk in Gokulam - Gokulam is the hippie, fancy neighborhood where it is nice to take stroll in. They have nice little bakeries and coffee shops as well as restaurants

Chamundi Hills - Located 13km east from Mysore, the Chamundi Hills offer a beautiful view from the city. There are 1008 steps to climb. You will get to see Shri Chamundeshwari temple on your way there.
