Best neighborhoods in Canggu

#1 Pererenan

Pererenan neighborhood is higher class than the rest of the surrounding neighborhoods. It (still) has this laid-back, less crowded vibe which is very pleasant. The kind of people that you will see there will be in their late twenties/mid thirties/late thirties. It is a good place to stay if you want to experience a calmer Canggu, away from travel novices and all that goes with it.

  • Access to the beach: yes (Pererenan statue)

  • Gojek: yes

  • Restaurants/coffee: Upper quality/more refined atmosphere, but price remain in the same range as everywhere else. Recommended restaurants: Arte, Mostly, Rize, TMO coffee (Tiying Tutul)

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ For more details about the restaurants/coffee places/accommodation click here

  • Accommodation: Youโ€™ll find more villas to rent than hostels to book. Guesthouses are common.

  • Shops: More luxury and refined clothes/jewelry shops

  • Gym: Victory Fitness Club, Surya Bali, Wrong gym, Obsidian

N.B. Seseh is right after Pererenan and is suppose to have the same type of vibe!

#2 Tiying Tutul

Tying Tutul neighborhood feels like you are living in a little village, which is in fact the case. It is located on the other side of the main street (JL. Raya Canggu) and has therefore no direct access to the sea (but it is only 10 minutes driving). In tying Tutul you can breath. The population is a mix of locals and more mature tourists searching for a quieter place. You wonโ€™t find noisy bars here, and most food places will close between 4 and 6pm. That said, Pererenan is just across the main street so super easy to get food ๐Ÿ˜‹

  • Access to the beach: No - beach access time by scooter: between 7 and 10 minutes

  • Gojek: yes

  • Restaurants/coffee: Coffee like places: TMO coffee (HIGHLY recommended), Copenhagen bakery, Neighborโ€™s table (supposed to be good), Long Play (supposed to be good), Neighborโ€™s table ( I have not been but only 100% 5 stars for this coffee place. Apparently worth going for their sandwiches, matcha and patries/cakes)

  • Accommodation: Mostly Villas and guesthouses

  • Gym: Obsidian, Surya Gym

#3 Pondok/Bantan

Pondok neighborhood has the same vibe as Tying Tutul, and it comes third simply because it is further away from Pererenan area than Tiying Tutul is. Pondok/Bantan is also located on the other side of the main JL. Raya Canggu street, giving to the area no direct access to the sea, but then again Batu Bolong is just on the opposite side of the main street.

  • Access to the beach: No - beach access time by scooter: between 7 and 15 minutes

  • Gojek: yes

  • Restaurants/coffee: Local restaurants and coffee places: Kedai Bantan, Gidyion home cooking (10 minutes drive towards the north of Canggu)
