Taganga

Taganga is a small traditional coastal village, full of old fishermen. Said like that, it does not sound appealing but I swear it has full of charm with its chill vibes, rustic streets, cozy coffee places and restaurants. I’ve actually volunteered there for one month, and before that it was my getaway from a sometimes hectic Santa Marta.

If you want to learn how to dive, this is the perfect spot as they have many certified schools and t is supposed to be quite cheap too!

How to get there:

From Santa Marta, either take a blue bus that says Taganga on its windscreen or a Taxi.

Where to stay:

If you plan on staying a night or two, you should go to:

  • Divanga: Divanga hostel is cute. There are colors everywhere, flowers along the stair rails, a big pool in which you can relax and even practice before if you plan on going diving during your stay. You have a choice between privates and dorms.

They have a restaurant open to anyone too, and it’s the BEST FOOD I’ve had in the region. I recommend the chicken curry in coconut milk and the beef filet wok. For desert, they sometimes have homemade brownie with ice cream or the homemade apple pie and it is delicious ! They have a rooftop bar where everybody gathers to play games of pool.

Where to eat:

Divanga, Pachamama (check out their bakery too!), Fatto in Casa (for some Italian)

What to do:

Taganga is not very big. You can chill on the main beach, snorkel early in the morning at playa grande, take a diving couse, walk to the mirador, rent a Kayak, take a small boat and visit the furthest beaches, stroll through the beach stands in search of a new bikini, a nice piece of jewelry or a tasty fruit juice!
